Now that holiday gift-giving is behind us, many of us are looking for ways to customize their techno gifts (such as iPhones, Droids, gaming devices and the like) with personalized cases, coverings or other accessories. One speaker accessory that I saw and liked the looks of at CES was the Mobi headphonie.
I haven’t tried them out myself yet (soon), so this isn’t a review or endorsement, but I just learned about the headphonies for Haiti fundraising campaign and this DOES endear them to me. If I’m going to purchase something, I like that the company is supporting a cause that I care about. Announced earlier today, Mobi will donate $1 from the purchase of each headphonie sold on www.headphonies.com from January 18th – February 28th, 2010 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund.
These Headphonies won an Innovations Award from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) at CES last week and drew quite a crowd at their booth. (Yeah, these small speakers were a BIG deal.)
They are portable amplified speakers in the shape of artistic characters that attach to your media/MP3 player or gaming device – or sit on a table – and deliver surprisingly great sound. They also have built-in hi-fi amplifiers, so you can add to your audio experience by using multiple Headphonies at once – with their optional add-on adapters. Currently, Headphonies are available in seven artistic designs: Skully, Stargirl, Sinister, KoKo, Inked, Softy and Purist. (KoKo here’s my personal fave.)
Headphonies are on Twitter: @Headphonies and will be announcing a “College Scholarship Design Contest” on Monday, January 18th too.
Note: This is the first post highlighting a parade of tech, toy or local NYC-area companies donating a portion of their profits to help the efforts in Haiti. If you know of such a company or brand, leave me a comment below and I’ll be sure to include them in my running list.
